Formerly a writer and editor, I began drawing again three years ago. I use a number of resources to guide my study, most notably the teachings of Kimon Nicolaïdes, an instructor at the Art Students League of New York in the early 1900s. Nicolaïdes’ approach is based on close observation and a deep connection with the impulse of the subject being drawn.

Since late 2017, I’ve been focused on learning to sculpt portraits and figures in clay, using Edouard Lanteri’s instruction in “Modelling and Sculpting the Human Figure.” I continue to draw the human form and study the works of the masters every day.
